This project is a couple of years old but I never properly photographed it until the other day. This commission has led to another ping pong dining table which I am currently designing for a new customer.
My first custom install of 2013. I have to admit this is almost a little too modern and minimalist even for me but pulling off the glass as well as we did was quite satisfying and looks really dramatic. The shadow lines, light rays and rainbows coming off of it in the late afternoon sun were pretty incredible. For all the images check the gallery page.
We finally delivered the last custom commission design of the year before kicking it into high gear for the holiday sales season. The island is modular so we could easily deliver it up to the 30th floor of the W. The top and outer sides are 1/8″ hot rolled plate steel and the interior and center stripe are black walnut. The beveled edge with reveal is my favorite aspect of the design along with the center line and how it breaks thru the side wall only an 1/8″.
One thing I have been really bad about in the last couple of years is documenting my work. The insanely busy year opening Take Heart hasn’t helped matters. Today I made the time to photograph one of my favorite pieces from last year. Though the shots are outside , it is an interior bench I produced for a clients entry. It is black walnut, cold rolled steel and leather. A design element that occurs often in my work is one I call clean fusion. It is on display here at the leg connection and somewhat with the cushions as well.
